The Dancing Wu Li Masters
An Overview of the New Physics

by Gary Zukav (1979)

PHYSICS = WU LI

Wu Li = Patterns of Organic Energy
Wu Li = My Way
Wu Li = Nonsense
Wu Li = I Clutch My Ideas
Wu Li = Enlightenment
(7)

Using various translations of the Chinese word for physics, Zukav structures The Dancing Wu Li Masters so as to lead the reader in a dance of several movements: from the foundations of physics, through the history of physics, and finishing with a coda of enlightenment, a grand pas de deux of science and Taoist philosophy that is surprisingly poetic. However, as Max Planck pointed out:

Science … means unresting endeavor and continually progressive development toward an aim which the poetic intuition may apprehend, but which the intellect can never fully grasp. (316)

Maybe physics is more poetic than previously thought. 341 pages.
